Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Tegan Coddington. I am 22 years old, I have been drawing ever since I was a little kid and it never really grew out of me! Ever since I was young I have always been intrigued by the weird and bizarre.

What inspires you?
A lot of things inspire me, music the fashion I’m into, my lifestyle, other artists and the daily emotions I encounter as an average human being. I am very much into the alternative lifestyle as far as the tastes I have in music and fashion. I like to reference my own experiences into my art and have used my work to express myself for a long time now. My favourite artists consist of Michael hussar, Mark Ryden, Camille Rose Garcia, Trevor Brown, HR Giger, Paul Booth and many old fashioned cartoon artists that feature in cartoons like the Disney Alice in Wonderland.

Can you give us an overview of your artwork and what you have been doing in the past year?
I’d say my work is usually presented in bright colours with a flirty feel to them while luring a dark edge and sometimes an edgy darker message behind the pieces. It can be bloody and a bit twisted while it plays like a child.

Is there a message or a feeling you try to convey?

I try to project my own experiences and feelings into my pieces, sometimes they are personal and others are only my personal opinions towards a bigger issue. Thought not all my pieces are negative some can be much more fun and flirty than serious. I like to portray images that are interesting to look at but also have something more to them than pretty pictures.

Does the city you live in support and encourage your artwork?
Yes it does. I sell a lot of my t-shirt designs here in Perth to a couple of stores and they are always wanting more from my art whatever those projects are. I also do custom commission designs for people all over the world and local here to me, I feel very privileged as an artists to accomplish this.

How do you feel when clients get your art tattooed on them?
It is extremely flattering; the tattoo will be on for life if not painfully lazered off or covered with another. It’s the biggest compliment to have people inking my pieces into their skin which usually have to be quiet large designs which take time, money and pain not to mention the love and respect to carry the image on themselves forever.

What medium would you like to explore and why?
I never got into sculpture so I wouldn’t mind delving into that but I would like to paint on large-scale canvases because I love large art.

Describe your workplace /studio/room that create your pieces in?
I don’t have a special studio room I simply create where I want to create usually on a table with some music playing.

Describe the process of your art?
All my pieces take different times, usually it can take all day or a couple of days, I never start my personal pieces without completing the one I’m currently working on. When I have a lot of jobs on like commissions I can take weeks rotating between them all.

Do you have any exhibitions or projects coming up?
I am planning on corset and cosmetic bag items with my work printing on them, it is a big project that’s already set up, so it’s just a matter of time really.
