Can you give us an overview of your photography/artwork in your Red Bubble store and how your ideas came about?
I guess I just wanted to show people what I see, the way I see things. I was particularly inspired to create images that seemed like they had been digitally altered, when they were actually in their raw form. I enjoyed using manual effects. I love playing with macro, as it opens up tiny worlds and lets people’s imaginations ignite.
Do you prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
Most definitely behind it.
What are 5 of your favourite items?
-My cameras, my old fashioned carpet sweeper (far superior to the vacuum cleaner!) My Mary of the Sacred Heart pendant from Rome (not religious, but LOVE the icons!)My purple Pumas (the best shoes in the world, went all around Athens trying to find the exact same pair, to no avail) and my awesome bed
Where do you see yourself 10 years?
Helping people in need, using my photography to awaken and inspire people and making positive changes in the world. In 10 years time I want to have given something positive to mankind on a big scale, whether it is through my art, writing or actions, I want to bring some healing into the world.
Is there a message or feelings you try to convey through your photography?
I wanted people to feel wonder. Even if it’s on a small scale. Different works were designed with different messages, so it’s really hard to say. Mostly the feeling behind my work is that the world is wonderful if you take time to see it that way.
A lot of your photos are from a trip overseas, tell us a little bit about that experience.
Well, in year 12 my class all went to Europe for 4 weeks. It was the first time I had been that far from Australia. I’d spent the whole year leading up to it hungering to see more of the world, and so naturally the trip was like a feast at the end of a fast; I gobbled it up. However, I did have a bit of an artistic crisis. At home, I was used to taking everyday scenes and items and making something out of them. In Europe, everything was wondrous and beautiful, and I felt that I was stealing the beauty created by other people by taking photos. I didn’t feel like I was creating art, I felt I was just clicking the button on my camera. Honestly, the photos I took were inspired by my loved ones at home. Every photo I took was to share the things I was seeing and experiencing with them. Being overseas was an incredible experience. I loved it. The photos are a record of that experience that I can now share with the world.
Do you have any exhibitions or projects coming up?
The other night I was just about to fall asleep when I had this genius thought about a new photographic/study of humanity project I could embark on. Unfortunately I fell asleep, and my genius project idea has disappeared! I have been racking my brain for days trying to find it, but, sadly it has slipped away into the land of forgotten dreams. Maybe I can try and access it there? Stay tuned though, cause that idea was a winner!
