The name ‘Spice’, defines this artist pretty well. She believes variety is the spice of life and therefore her many interests will never be enough to fill her open mind.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
There’s so much to tell, I'm not sure where to start! haha. The basics are that I'm 36yrs old, was born in Sliema, Malta and have 2 kids. I consider myself to be a bit of an old soul, feel like I’ve lived 10 lives in one, been through many things that most people would break from, yet I still soldier on and believe that my passion for life, art n music is what gives me my strength. Some may find me a little intimidating, but deep down I’m very shy and quiet person who dwells a lot in my own thoughts.

What inspires you?
Music is my biggest influence and inspires me in everything I do, whether it be in my art or life in general. I suppose deep down, it’s the mood that the music creates within me, which I then create from that.

What feedback have you had about your graff work with the youth in Western Sydney?
I’m lucky to say that I’m well respected within the scene and the feedback I get from youth confirm that.

I don’t feel it always has to do with me being a Graffiti Artist... I’m just someone who gives a fuck about the welfare and rights for people/youth in general and I think they notice that.

What have you been up to over the last year?

This past year has been an intense one. Probably where I used up 9 of my passed lives haha. I try to paint on the regular, but last years highlight was my travels through Europe and where I was lucky enough to represent at an all womens hip hop jam in Berlin. I also painted a few other European cities with some of the biggest names in the scene.

Advice to aspiring artist out there?
Follow your heART, and do it for yourself, first and foremost. If success comes from that then great… but unless u have a genuine love for it… what achievements can u really have?

Describe the process for one of your large-scale pieces.
All starts with what I want to express or if it’s a job, the theme in which I need to derive from. I work on a rough sketch, just so I have some basic idea of what I hope to do. (I’m so much more a better painter, than I am at getting my ideas drawn onto paper. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a freestyler)  I then work on my colour scheme. This is where I run wild cos the colours can change the whole feel of the design. The undercoat colour can have a big effect on what I choose also, and once the wall is rolled, I then use a light colour spray can, and sketch up my first outline (my guide) and continue to fill in with colour until I finish by signing it with my tag.

Where is your favourite place on earth?
My fave place on earth is Memory Lane :) but if your referring to geography... I would have to say somewhere where the ocean meets the earth. I love rock cliffs and bushwalking to get to them... New York would also rate high on my list… not that I’ve been there yet! haha

Are people surprised when they find out you're a female?
Yeah but I love it when people come up to me and say they had no idea Spice was a girl. I like that my pieces aren't judged upon my sex.

Do you have any exhibitions or projects coming up?
I’m always working on some project, especially for work. I do small part at the International Womens Fest, The Burbs Youth Festival that I help co organise and paint at, The Platform2 Hip Hop Festival at the Carriageworks, Mays Lane exhibition that will also be featured at the Platform gig...plus I’ve recently been asked to exhibit in Brooklyn New York for the 'Queenz Arrive' exhibit this April with Indie (Cope 2s beautiful wife), Fafi, Claw Money, just to name a few. New York all depends on whether I can get sponsorship though, cos it seems to have fallen through at their end due to the recession :(
