Mail Me Art

MAIL ME ART!

Mail Me Art is a British-based project. Over the course of a year, the first Mail Me Art project brought together a vast collection of artistic work sent in the form of mail by both professional and amateur artists of all ages from across the world. A wide variety of media were used in an equally wide variety of styles and the work arrived on everything from postcards and envelopes to boxes and pieces of wood.

Mail Me Art 2 is now open for submissions! Following the success of the first project, they are looking forward to having just as much fun with Mail Me Art 2. This second project will run for around 6 months and there will again be a monthly prize, along with another exhibition at the end. There might even be another book, depending on the success of the current one…

The Mail Me Art exhibition, held during April 2009 at the Red Gate Gallery in London, showcased work from around the world it provided visitors with the opportunity to view and buy the artwork that made the project possible.

Visitors came from around the world to visit – such as the United States, Guatemala, Japan, Brazil and Spain!

The address for all entries is:
Mail Me Art
37 Thames Court
Victoria Avenue, West Molesey

A stitch in time saves nine

MINX ART is paying homage to those who have revived skills which seem to have been lost under the rug in recent years. One artist who has been subtly brightening corners of the streetscape with her fluffy, homemade creations is Grrl + Dog. She is a Guerrilla Knitter who has been ‘knitting one and pearling one’ all over the inner west of Sydney in recent months.

Her woolly delights cuddle poles around town, she cleverly ties the theme of the item into the location, such as a piece which reflects the Aboriginal Flag, near the iconic Aboriginal mural in Newtown. A colourful and non-destructive form of street art, Guerrilla Knitting has many fans.

Check out Yarn Bombing www.geekgirl.com these guys have knitted an entire cardigan for a bus!

Liana Kabel

Grrl + Dog

From an artist who knits clothes for objects to another artist who uses knitting needles to make jewellery. Brisbane based Liana Kabel fashions bright and shiny creations out of recycled, plastic knitting needles and Tupperware.

She has a loot of lovely bangles, rings, necklaces, brooches and earrings. We're big fans of the 'Measure-Up Brooch' made from a tape measure. She's also made a Tupperware dress

Her show names in recent years say it all ‘I’m a Tupperware Lady’ and 'Nana Is The New Black.' Her work is fun and playful. You can get your hands on you own piece of Plastic Fantastic at her online Etsy store.
