Painting is a practice steeped in tradition, yet in the past few decades painting has seen a revival in popularity due to the broader definition of the term, leading to it becoming one of the most robust and versatile mediums for the creation of contemporary art. The influx of modern technology and the far-reaching presence of the press in our everyday lives has lead to more paintings being aided by and based on digital media.
In many cases some or all of the elements that we would expect from painting – pigment applied with a brush on canvas – have been removed and new factors introduced leading to conceptual pieces informed by the media that created them. Or on the flipside there are many contemporary artists using traditional mediums and practices to create an aesthetic that looks entirely new. Different Strokes aims to survey the spectrum of contemporary painters creating different and unusual works.

Meggs Yeo
Art Exhibition @
Kelbys Cafe
2 February, 2009
Meggs is one of those crafty ladies we mentioned on the home page who has busy 'craft-ernoons' creating works with unique skills like tapestry. She often uses needle work as her weapon.
She addresses political, social and historical iconic moments with satire, she has a quirky style which is her trademark. We love the irony in her Queen Series and also her experiments with the balaclava man and scrapbooking.
You can see more of Meggs' work in the MINX ART Gallery or check out her blog;
http://meggsyeo-art.blogspot.com
20 works by Meggs are on display for your viewing pleasure from January - March 2009 @ Kelbys Cafe - 293 Marrickville Rd, Sydney... lovely staff and the best brekky - plug plug!
